Cross-Reactivity Between Soy and Dairy in FPIES - A Closer Look at the Stats

Cheese.png

Are you afraid to trial dairy because your baby reacted to soy? Or vice versa....nervous try soy because dairy is a trigger? You heard about cross-reactivity between soy and dairy. Let's take a closer look at the stats..

20-40% of those who react to soy would cross-react to dairy as well (and vice versa). BUT, this also means that 60-80% of babies who react to soy will NOT react to dairy (and vice versa).

By just looking at the stats from a different viewpoint, do you notice a shift in your anxiety level? It is easy to focus on the negative and it takes more effort to focus on the positive.

It was nerve-wracking when I had to do a dairy trial (my baby girl is FPIES to soy). But we were part of the fortunate 60-80% that reacted only to soy. So if you are nervous about cross-reactivity, I hope that seeing things from another perspective can give you more confidence going into a food trial.

P/S: I have been working on a free pdf. guide on navigating FPIES. I wrote this with a newly diagnosed baby in mind and I can't wait to share it with you. Stay tuned for more info!!
