How My Baby Taught Me a Lesson on How to Deal with FPIES Reactions

I lost count of how many times she pooped in the shower. The first time she pooped while we were showering, I shrieked for my hubby to come help. I was just super grossed out and did not want her stepping in her own poop. I did this twice until I noticed she started being afraid of stepping into the shower.

The poor thing was scared because she associated mommy’s screaming with showering. I realized how I react in times of stress matters. My baby takes in cues from me on how she should react.

Dealing with FPIES reactions (ie. acute vomiting or explosive diarrhea) is super stressful. Take a moment to think about how you react during stressful times. It takes a lot of deliberate effort to act quickly and yet, remain calm (to your best ability) at the same time. If the stress is getting harder to deal with, reach out for support.

P/S: The next time she pooped in the shower, I resorted to calling for help in a sing-songy voice. I get my SOS and the baby was not as freaked out.⠀⠀
